Speedhunters.com: Round 2 coverage of the CMRC from Barbados featuring David Summerbell & AMS TA1

What a week of Speedhunting! Hello all, I’m Jody Forte. I’m a photographer and car enthusiast from the little island of Barbados. This past weekend, we hosted the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at our local race circuit Bushy Par. What a weekend it was! Quite a few overseas competitors came in for this event and not just from other competing Caribbean countries like Jamaica and Guyana. We also had some racers from Europe join the party! My wife, Seema Forte, and I shoot a lot of local motorsports events here and we figured this event was a good opportunity to start to show more of whats happening here on this little island to the world. What better place than on Speedhunters! Here are some of the shots from practice sessions, qualifying and race day. Lets get right into it…

AMS Performance TA1 driven by David Summerbell from the CMRC Caribbean Invasion 2010

As I stated in an earlier blog, the thrill associated with witnessing feats of speed and bravado at Dover, for the Emancipation of Speed race-meet, was not on the cards. I was unavoidably absent. I had to rely on post- race reports and comments to mould an image of what occurred on track. There was consensus that it was a memorable event which climaxed with an unexpected display of superiority, which left attendees in a fun induced drunken stupor!

According to the race report, David ‘King’ Summerbell Jr. started the final race of the day from pit lane, ½ lap after the field got the green flag. Summerbell summoned his troops and took the field to the slaughterhouse. When the mayhem ended only Matthew Gore, the victor, was spared. Some fans intimated that it was the best race they have seen at Dover for some time. Read more…

David Summerbell Jr. & AMS TA1 take top honors at the 2010 Carnival of Speed in Jamaica

The Jamaica Race Driver’s Club staged a well attended and exciting first event of the 2010 circuit racing season when the LIME Carnival of Speed race meet was held at Dover raceway in St. Ann earlier in April, heralding the 20th anniversary season ahead of them.

On race day, several new and refreshed cars were to grace the track in all classes, as competitors stepped up their game from last year. Indeed, it looked like a new car show, as almost everyone had a showpiece of a car to parade for their fans, with David Summerbell, Doug Gore, Sebastian and Peter Rae, the Browns Town crew of Nigel Edwards, Jerome Jones and Ian Edwards, Charles and Alan Chen, Team Outcast’s Jaleel Handal, Peter Jaggon and Brian Foster to name a few all entering pristine vehicles for the event, along with newcomer Joscelyn Brown in an immaculately prepared 1971 Ford Escort that looked like it just rolled off the production line of a race car factory. The event was broadcast live on Power 106 FM, KLAS Sports radio and was streamed live on video on the club’s website at www.jrdc.org to keep those unable to attend abreast of the happenings.

David Summerbell and AMS TA1 Sweep the second race of The Caribbean Motor Racing Championship. 3 Races, 3 Wins and a new track record

This Memorial Day weekend was the second race of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) at Dover Raceway in Jamaica. David Summerbell and AMS TA1 had a very successful weekend breaking the track record in qualifying in addition to breaking the during race lap record three times. Here is a quick run-down of the weekend’s events:

Qualifying:
In qualifying on Sunday David and AMS TA1 set a new track lap record of 1.18.47. This beating the existing record which was also held by David and TA1 by nearly half a second.

Race 1:

Monday in the first race David started on pole and ran away with the win, finishing well ahead of Stuart Maloney in a Evo 6 (white and pink) who is currently the biggest competition and the reigning CMRC champion. David also set a new during race track lap record with a 1.19.7 lap time.

Race 2:

In the second race David reset the track during race lap record with a 1.19.3 and again took the overall win.

Race 3:

A couple hours later in race 3 David made it a clean sweep and took the overall win yet again as well as resetting the during race track record with a time of 1.19.0.

We sold AMS TA1 to David in May of 2008. Since then he has made 9 First Place finishes and broken and re-broken lap records at multiple tracks. Since we sold the car to David the only change made was a new Shepherd Racing transfer case. The AMS TA1 EVO 8 is now on its 4th straight season on the original AMS 2.3 Stroker Motor. This weekend marks 29 total Victories for TA1 since its debut in 2006.

Congratulations to David Summerbell and crew for an outstanding performance! We could not have found a better Team to carry on the winning legacy of the AMS TA1 EVO 8.
