We just finished up another unique ALPHA 9 build. Craig drives his GT-R… I mean REALLY drives it. This is no garage queen or weekend toy. Craig puts miles on this car every day and in all weather conditions. We even had to replace a few items thanks to salt putting a beating on them.

Craig’s car came to us as a traditional ALPHA 6 car. He tracks the car regularly and wanted more power for the road course and more to play around with on the streets. In addition to our traditional ALPHA 9 power package we added HKS inlet pipes, DCT Cooler, A built transmission by Shep trans and a tried and true AMS 3.8L long block complete with AMS ALPHA series camshafts.

What really sets this car apart though is the interior. Craig had our local upholstery shop do a 2012 Black Edition style makeover. it came out GREAT, in fact I think it looks better than the actual Black Edition interior. He topped it off with some clean CF accents and custom steering wheel. Lastly A Sparco harness bar and 5 points were added for track time.

All in all it turned to be a very well rounded car and super quick! Most importantly it’s the car Craig wanted.

Final 93 octane numbers were 704whp / 634 tq
Final MS109E Race gas numbers were 817whp / 670 tq

Craig is on his way home to Ontario right now, if you run into him make sure to waive…that is if you can catch him.

The goal was to put the car through a series of abuse drag runs in order to solidify the engineering put behind it. Durring that testing we broke the record for HP, ET, MPH and 60-130 for a GT-R. This follow up video to that run show us using our TrackVision software to overlay the speedo on the record breaking run. Over 1300Whp, 9.05@166.66 with massive wheel spin all the way through 4th gear in BLISTERING heat and a 60-130mph time of 3.46. The ALPHA 12 has proven itself as the ALPHA of all GT-R performance packages!

AMS Nissan R35 GT-R Alpha Fuel System Upgrade Kit

The AMS Nissan GT-R Alpha Fuel System is a no compromise solution for GT-R owners in need of fuel delivery to support up to 1300hp.

Bigger Capabilities With Less Hassle

Most aftermarket fuel systems for the GT-R require extensive, permanent modifications to the factory sending units or bulky, potentially unsafe, fuel components in the trunk of the vehicle. The AMS solution prevents all of this by neatly housing all of the fuel system upgrades inside the factory fuel tank!
Substantial Fuel Delivery Increase Without Compromise

Rather than eliminate key functions of the factory fuel system we chose to integrate them. The Alpha Fuel System retains the fuel siphoning system, and enhances the “surge tank” system which is designed to help prevent fuel starvation problems during hard cornering and acceleration.

To keep these key attributes we designed the system with two reliable Bosch high pressure/volume pumps, bypass valve and filter integrated onto the existing factory surge tank for a comprehensive in-tank fuel solution. All of the components in our system are compatible with ethanol (E85), pump and race fuels of all types.

The AMS Alpha Fuel System is the most complete, best performing OEM integrated solution on the market.

Features

Fuel support for up to 1300HP

Entire system neatly contained inside the fuel tank

We had a relatively fun and successful time at Monarch. Relatively meaning it was not racing evil reincarnated as much of our season has been. We broke the record for the Rally AWD class (whoohoo! we were hauling), but we also had some bad luck and ended up making a 6 hour round trip to Denver and back to Monarch to retrieve some parts.

The hillclimb in Monarch is pretty bad a**. It’s one of the roads that remind you exactly why you love to hillclimb. The road is just east of the Monarch Ski Resort on Highway 50. We haven’t been there in 2 years, we’ve only been there once and it was in the GTX. While not particularly technical, nor are the drop offs as crazy as most we deal with, the course is unique and challenging in its own right – completely lined with trees and steep as sh*t. Skill and patience are imperative to be successful here. There are lots of hairpins and setting up properly to plow out of them is crucial because if you don’t get your set up right, you have to recover in the midst of 8-10% grade … lots of time to be lost on this course.

We obviously had the clutch replaced since Pikes Peak, but we’re still running on the stock motor. A bitter pill to swallow since we were at a very steep hillclimb and man would that extra power have come in handy, but c’ est la vie. We skipped the first run on practice day. The road was wicked silty; a very, very fine powder like coating covered the surface of the course. We thought we’d let the road get “cleaned up” a bit by our fellow racers run 1. Plus, Dave was headed straight to Cali after the race to lend our Evo to Andrew Comrie-Picard as a back-up for X-Games competition. We were trying to keep her fairly clean.

Our first run was abysmal. Handling was dreadful. We came back to the pits and jacked the back end up. The passenger side rear tire could be shifted about ½ inch in all directions – clearly the problem. We got it tightened up and headed back up for our second run. The Evo was back to her aggressive self, we had a great run and broke the Rally AWD record on just our second time up the course with a 2:07.57, beating the old record by 4 seconds. That time was enough to take Overall Fast Qualifier of the day as well. On our third run, we took a short but tight right-hander a little too tight and banged up that same passenger rear wheel that had given us trouble earlier in the morning. Though we sped out of the corner pretty good we quickly realized something was wrong and pulled off. Got the car back down to the pits and back up on the jack to discover shock oil splattering the wheel well. Dave took the wheel off and confirmed we busted an Ohlins and also the upper control arm. Since we’re becoming quite accustomed to torture this season, we didn’t spend much time contemplating the drive back to Denver for our stock suspension before we were in the car heading for home. It was about a 6 hour round trip with a very brief stop at the house to grab the parts.

We arrived back at Monarch too late to start work on the car – we were exhausted. We got up early Sunday morning and started plugging away. Parts replacement went fairly smoothly and we made it on time for our first run, albeit with OEM rear suspension on the car. We got a 2:09 on the first run. We were ok with that … getting into the groove with the new parts and making sure everything was kosher before we pushed hard. We were well positioned to win it having set the fastest time the day before. I need to preface telling you about the second run with a reminder of what happened at Pikes Peak. The clutch went out on us so we were forced to RPM match shift between 2nd and 3rd for about half the run (roughly 6 miles). This inevitably put wear and tear on the syncros in the gear box, but the transmission had been fine up until … our second run at Monarch. Coming out of a hairpin Dave went to put it in second and nuthin’ – he was locked out. Back into first gear, and then into second and we were ok again. But believe me you – races are absolutely won and lost by the few seconds something like that costs you and that’s exactly what happened. We got to the top with a 2:10. Not a bad time – but we were beat by a 2:05 and of course disappointed we didn’t better our qualifying time of a 2:07. We came in third overall. The only folks to beat us were and open wheeler and a champ car, so we continue to be pleased with the fact we can hang with those guys at all considering the power to weight ratio. Plus, happy to be racing period since we had the shock / control arm issue the day before.

Thanks goes to Allison for the writeup, and thank you for reading! Now on to the video:

AMS Nissan GT-R R35 90mm Race Exhaust

The AMS Nissan GT-R 90mm Race Exhaust is one of the most free-flowing performance-based exhausts on the market. Through our many years of experience in the design of aftermarket turbo exhaust systems, we noted that a higher level of performance could be achieved with improved routing and increased tube diameter over the existing stock GT-R exhaust design. While the stock and many other popular exhaust systems on the market feature intricate bends that would impede upon efficient exhaust flow, AMS decided to develop a system that would incorporate mild bends and deliver exhaust gases from midpipe to tip in the most direct way possible without sacrificing fitment. This, coupled with a large 90mm primary pipe that gently flares into two 76mm secondary pipes made it possible to further reduce undesired backpressure and turbulence. To cap it off, four polished OEM-style tips were chosen to continue our overall goal in the AMS GT-R engineering project – which was to retain as much OEM-styling as possible in order to build some extremely potent stock-appearing GT-R’S.

This race exhaust is a two-piece system constructed of 100% stainless steel with all seams and flanges professionally hand TIG-welded in-house at AMS. For added durability, a 3/8” thick flange was incorporated into the design for a clean and secure seal to any stock, AMS brand or other brand midpipe featuring stock mounting dimensions and features. In addition, a v-band clamping system at the mid-section ensures an extremely solid seal without the use of a gasket and allows for minor rotational adjustments to ensure excellent fitment.

Recently the AMS Germany drag racing team headed out to the Speed Days - King of Germany event held at an airport strip in Alkersleben. Last year the AMS powered EVO IX managed to take home the top honors at the event but were unable to do so this year as the vehicle developed a misfire problem. Driver Paul Dziubek had to let off throttle at 1/8 mile mark which still earned him a 5th place in AWD class with a best ¼ mile pass of 10.2 @ 131 MPH.

Here are some more pictures and video of Paul’s hard launches:

The sun is shining in West Chicago so we thought what better time than now to hold our 9th annual AMS open house!

Our open house seems to get bigger and bigger every year at AMS. Last year we broke the 1000 mark with the number of people that walked into our doors. This year we know that number will only get bigger.

Just like every year you can expect lots of fun activities on site like:

* Driving simulator contests
* Door Prizes
* Bean Bag Toss
* Shop Tours
* AMS cars on display
* LOTS MORE

So stop on by on July 11th with a 1000 plus of your closest gear heads and enjoy a day in the sun at AMS.

Remember our track day is the Saturday before (10th) so Make a weekend out of it and visit AMS performance!
