AMS Germany looking to break the EVO VIII record!

We got an email yesterday from our friend Paul Dziubek of www.Materialmordshop.de or www.amsperformance.de. He sent us pictures of his drag car reconstruction and we were blown away. Quite possibly the nicest looking drag car!

Paul’s plans and goals are not modest at all. In short he wants the record! The current 1/4 Mile ET record is set by STM at 8.34 seconds.

Paul’s current setup is as follows:

David vs. Goliath

The race lived up to the hype. Preparation had begun weeks before with the anticipation of Goliath in the form of a factory built Audi DTM driven by Doug Gore coming to take David’s crown as King of Dover Raceway. The team was now in high gear Saturday morning for the big show, the car was at the track early and all the supplies and team arrived shortly after. The crew was pleased to see that lap times were good from the start and consistently dropping.  Some of the day was used to further optimize the setup on the car.  By the afternoon on new tires, David was running at near track record times, lap after lap.

Sunday was the first test and again the team was not disappointed.  Practice went well with few changes needing to be made, which gave the team time to relax and wait for the first qualifying session.  Once on track, all it took was enough laps to heat the tires and David was able to set a blistering time of 1:18.7 to take pole position for the Thunder Sport class.  With that pace, he was just under two full seconds ahead of his next fastest competitor and main rival Doug Gore in the ATL sponsored Audi DTM car.

The second qualifying session was a few hours later and with no major work or changes needed.   David was once again able to set the fastest time. The Team decision was made to use the same tires as the first qualifying, and they were not let down with another high 1:18 second run to take pole position in the Modified Production 4(MP4) class over the Audi once more. AMS Street Class EVO X : Cam Testing and 700whp!

Just today we had a chance to test some new AMS spec camshafts in our street class EVO X. The car was baselined with kelford ‘B’ cams on the same tune that the car ran out at Buttonwillow and set the street class record with, narrowly beating our Shop GTR, both being piloted by AMS’s president Martin Musial.

The design goal for these cams was to make more power, while still being able to retain adequate drivability on the stock ECU. Major Modifications to the car are as follows:

AMS 2.3L motor with 10:1 compression ratio
AMS Prototype CNC head package w/ 1mm over valves
AMS Spec Camshafts
AMS FMIC, LICP, UICP
AMS 900x turbo kit @ 33 psi
AMS Single exit 3″ exhaust
AMS Custom paralell fuel pump system
AMS Fuel rail
ID 2000cc injectors @ 72% IDC
ECU controlled boost, single bottom port WG solenoid

Here you can see the results from our cam testing. These cams are available now. There are no losses on the bottom end, and it makes about 25more hp up top with 1 lb LESS BOOST! These cams are good for an easy 30-35whp over the already awesome B cams. Read more…

Edmunds Inside line Test: AMS EVO X 900X Package *VIDEO*

2010_lancerevolution_flipper_ams_fe_9998_1129101.jpg

Inside Line tests hundreds of vehicles a year. Cars, trucks, SUVs, we run them all, and the numbers always tell a story. With that in mind we present “IL Track Tested,” a quick rundown of all the data we collect at the track, along with comments direct from the test drivers. Enjoy.

One morning last spring we woke up with this crazy idea to race a car up a big, scary hill in Nevada. After a few phone calls to Mitsubishi and West Chicago, Illinois-based AMS Performance we were well on our way, too. Then a long string of stupid, strange and sad things began to happen.

First, the Evo (all-wheel drive, remember) was flat towed most of the way between Mitsubishi’s headquarters in Cypress, California, and Illinois — a feat which had a severely debilitating effect on the car’s center differential. This delayed plans just enough to cause us to rethink the insanely rapid three-week build and plan for another event after the car was fully sorted. Read more…
