AMS Germany looking to break the EVO VIII record!

We got an email yesterday from our friend Paul Dziubek of www.Materialmordshop.de or www.amsperformance.de. He sent us pictures of his drag car reconstruction and we were blown away. Quite possibly the nicest looking drag car!

Paul’s plans and goals are not modest at all. In short he wants the record! The current 1/4 Mile ET record is set by STM at 8.34 seconds.

Paul’s current setup is as follows:

Mitsubishi Evo IX

  • Drag Racing Cage with Funny Car Loop
  • Carbon Lightweight Carbon Doors, Roof & Trunk
  • AMS Drag Rear Wing
  • Lexan Windows
  • Lightweight CroMo Car Front
  • STM DS9 Clone Carbon AirBox Read more…

David vs. Goliath

The race lived up to the hype. Preparation had begun weeks before with the anticipation of Goliath in the form of a factory built Audi DTM driven by Doug Gore coming to take David’s crown as King of Dover Raceway. The team was now in high gear Saturday morning for the big show, the car was at the track early and all the supplies and team arrived shortly after. The crew was pleased to see that lap times were good from the start and consistently dropping.  Some of the day was used to further optimize the setup on the car.  By the afternoon on new tires, David was running at near track record times, lap after lap.

Sunday was the first test and again the team was not disappointed.  Practice went well with few changes needing to be made, which gave the team time to relax and wait for the first qualifying session.  Once on track, all it took was enough laps to heat the tires and David was able to set a blistering time of 1:18.7 to take pole position for the Thunder Sport class.  With that pace, he was just under two full seconds ahead of his next fastest competitor and main rival Doug Gore in the ATL sponsored Audi DTM car.

The second qualifying session was a few hours later and with no major work or changes needed.   David was once again able to set the fastest time. The Team decision was made to use the same tires as the first qualifying, and they were not let down with another high 1:18 second run to take pole position in the Modified Production 4(MP4) class over the Audi once more. TOPSPEED MOTORSPORTS GT-R WINS 2011 ONE LAP OF AMERICA WITH THE AMS ALPHA 9 PACKAGE

TOPSPEED MOTORSPORTS GT-R WINS 2011 ONE LAP OF AMERICA WITH THE AMS ALPHA 9 PACKAGE

Imagine a team of two traveling over 3500 miles to race 9 events in eight days at some of the most demanding road courses of the eastern and Midwest United States. Throw in a drag race event midway through the competition along with a wet and dry skid pad event to kick off and end it all and you’d think you’d already have a rough challenge ahead of you. Now imagine you have no transport vehicle, the whole journey would have to be traversed in your race vehicle and you have to do it all on ONE set of tires! That’s what Leh Keen and Doug Wilks had to do in their TopSpeed Motorsports GT-R along with roughly 80 other competition vehicles for a chance to win the 2011 Brock Yates’ One Lap of America.

Competition for the 2011 One Lap of America began at the Tire Rack facility in South Bend, IN on April 30, 2011. The event made its way full circle over 3500 miles throughout much of the eastern and Midwest United States and ended a little over one week later on May 5, 2011. With nine race events and two skid pad competitions, this event was a true a test of endurance for both man and machine.

AMS Sponsored 929 Evo – Mid Ohio TTA Track Record!

466 miles and 7.5hrs to Mid Ohio!

My Saturday morning arrival was foggy and a bit cold – but worlds better than the Friday testday that was full of rain and 48 degrees for a high. I mounted up last years Hoosiers and put down my first ever ‘dry’ lap at Mid Ohio of a 1:43x i think to secure a gridspot near the front of the 40 car field.

In S2 I had a 1:42 on my first hot lap just as things were warming up. But on lap #2 I went wide into T8 and spun it. Fortunatley I stayed on track and nothing was damaged. With NASA you lose your times if you spin or go offtrack, so I had no official time at this point.

We had a decent break over lunch and we decided to change the AoA on the ARP wing I was running. Here’s where things went wrong… Not sure if it was hosed before or during our adjustment attempt but we had the adjustable rod screw break off inside the nut. We tried drilling it, pounding a hammer into it, pounding a screw into it, using vicegrips to turn the hammer/screwdriver – nothing. It was hosed. I did have a close neighbor (Mark; aka Brad) with a sweet ITR and the same wing! He agreed to let me borrow the supports when our schedules worked out. So we had a plan! Read more…

AMS Sponsored Ryan Gates at the Texas Mile | Evo X | Record Setting Run

- Courtesy of Speedhunters.com

Time attack competitor, Ryan Gates, took the time to tell us about his experience at the Texas Mile with his driver blog and now Cinesthetics has released a film of his record setting run with his AMS Performance built, 750whp, Evo X. As you can see in the video, he was at the top of fifth at 180mph for the last quarter mile because of the dog box transmission! Nonetheless, the Gates311 Evo is now the fastest Evo X in the America.

Nathan Pitcher 929 Evo – Track Day Testing 3.26.2011

After about 4hrs of sleep, this (pic above) was the scene early Saturday morning – bundled up and unpacking the car! It was downright cold and windy in the morning and didn’t change much throughout the day. The high I seen was 36; maybe 37 degrees. Temps under 40 definitely bring up a host of additional issues! I was probably going to be running street tires all day and definitely needed to turn the boost down!
