March 26th marks a new day for our beloved Drag EVO VIII. She has laid dormant for a while waiting to take a trip down the track. Well we got tired of waiting
We have decided while the ground thaws in balmy Chicago we should toss the AMS Drag EVO VIII into the trailer with the GT-R and Porsche 996TT and drive to Texas. last year we competed in the Texas mile and had a BLAST! We thought this year we would shake things up a bit and bring out something to turn some heads.
In order to achieve this we have to change some things on the drag car. Many of you remember the current engine layout below:
This summer our AMS president Martin Musial was chosen by Modified Magazine to compete in the Castrol Top Car Challenge with his personal EVO VIII street car. The event was designed around finding the ultimate all around street/track car.
Some of the cars that competed were a Twin Turbo 350Z, Cobra Mustang, Audi S4, K20 swapped Civic and AMS sponsored Ryan Gates and his EVO X
To start with, the cars had to be driven over 2 hours from LA to Buttonwillow Raceway during rush hour!! On top of this the event was also based around the following criteria:
With the scoring heavily weighted on the Time Attack portion we knew Ryan Gates EVO X and the Twin Turbo Z were going to be our biggest competition. Martin was going to have to rely on brute AMS power to compete with these dedicated Time Attackers and hope to out-gun them at the drag strip and dyno.
The results of the competition will be announced at SEMA in Las Vegas at the beginning of November. Stay tune to see how Martin and his EVO VIII stacked up against the competition!

Earlier this summer the AMS NOS Energy Drink Drag EVO was displayed at Mitsubishi’s MOD day in Cypress California. During the event the world’s most powerful evo was able to once again break a new record as it put down 1,181 HORSEPOWER TO THE WHEELS! News of the achievement traveled worldwide and this month the car is featured on the cover of Power magazine in Greece.
