AMS Releases AMS 750R Turbo Kit!

AMS is proud to release the AMS  750R Turbo Kit!

The AMS 750R Turbo is a GT30R variant capable of making 100whp more than a typical GT30R. We have seen as much as 500 wheel horsepower on 93 octane pump gas and over 580 wheel horsepower on race gas with this turbo!

The greatest attribute of the AMS 750R is that spool is only about 100-200rpm later than a GT30R turbo! This is the perfect set up for those of you who want to have a great spooling street set up that can still put massive amounts of power to the ground when the boost is turned up. This is the same turbo that we are running on our Time Attack Evo X!

The AMS 750R is true dual ball bearing center section with a modified billet compressor wheel. This wheel has been designed to offer better flow rates due to the improved aerodynamics, as well as offer great spool rates by having a lighter billet aluminum compressor wheel.

The AMS 750R turbo kit maintains the sames quality standards that we apply to all of our current AMS turbo kits. You can view all or our other turbo kits here www.amsperformance.com

AMS Performance / NOS Energy Drink TA-X debuts with a podium finish!

AMS Performance / NOS Energy Drink TA-X debuts with a podium finish!

This past weekend marked the first ever Redline Time Attack at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. It was also to be the debut for the AMS Performance / NOS Energy Drink Time Attack Mitsubishi EVO X (TA-X). Just days prior TA-X was in pieces and in its final stage of assembly. The team was able to come together and get the car up and running for the weekend’s events.

Saturday’s testing went very well with the AMS /NOS EVO X getting quicker and quicker. Some new car bugs prevented the AMS team from running the car at peak power. The team was only able to compete at the 450 wheel horsepower level, down from the 600whp level they had hoped to compete at. Each session brought about a new series of changes and tweaks to help improve the car. AMS driver Mark Daddio worked his magic with the underpowered car as each practice session the AMS/NOS Energy drink car got quicker and quicker.

This event brought out some stiff competition but early on Saturday it became clear that the Crawford Performance STI driven by Tarzan Yamada was the car to beat. With 580 wheel horsepower and in its second year of competition was running very quick laps all day. TA-X and the Crawford STI exchanged fastest lap times Saturday leaving Sunday open to either team.

Sunday started out with the TA-X setting the fastest lap of the event thus far in their first practice session. Rain was imminent as the radar showed a storm cell moving towards the track. As the first competition session kicked off once again it was AMS and Crawford within a couple of tenths of a second with the Crawford car edging them out. It would come down to the last session…so long as the weather would hold out AMS had a chance to take TA-X out for one last chance.

Down on power AMS brought TA-X out for its last session of the day with only minutes before the approaching storm rolled in. In exciting fashion both AMS and Crawford once again reset each other’s best lap time with Crawford edging TA-X out on its first lap. It all came down to the last lap. With a blistering first section as Mark Daddio rolling into turn four tragedy struck as the shifter cable on TA-X snapped…ending their session and the day.

In only its first competition the AMS/ NOS Energy Drink Time Attack EVO X was able to take a podium finish. TA-X claimed second place in the unlimited AWD class and second fastest overall lap of the day. What is even more impressive is that it was achieved without the additional 150 wheel horsepower the car will have later on in the season.
After TA-X’s appearance at the Mitsubishi Owner’s Day in Cypress, Ca July 11th, the next race will be July 25/26 at the Redline Time Attack in Nashville, TN. With what was learned over this past weekend AMS hopes to improve TA-X by restoring its horsepower level back to 600, adding more aero and more importantly even more testing time. The AMS / NOS Energy Drink Time Attack car should be back stronger than ever.

AMS would like to take time out to thank our generous sponsors whom without their support TA-X would not be possible:

Gates311 / AMS Sponsored Evo X – Autobahn Race Report

Gates311.com / AMS Performance / Nitto Tires Evo X – Race Report

Event: Redline Time Attack! Autobahn – June 20th-21st, 2009

Redemption.

On June 21st, 2009, Ryan Gates dominates the Modified Class at Round Three of the Redline Time Attack! series. Ryan took victory in the Modified AWD Class as well as capturing the Overall Modified Class Championship with a time of 1:30.7, more than 2.3 seconds faster than the nearest competitor.
After a forgettable Round Two, Ryan was determined to make up for lost time at Round Three. Once back at AMS Performance HQ, Eric and Ivan from AMS quickly got to work addressing the problems on the car. The issue from Willow Springs turned out to be a failed secondary fuel pump, which was caused by an electrical short of some sort. Ivan buttoned up the wiring throughout the car to make sure everything was correct and thankfully the car was back up and running. Testing at Autobahn was next.

We joined AMS on Friday before the Redline Time Attack! for testing at Autobahn to run the car and make sure the car was back to 100%. Just a few short sessions later, we were very satisfied with the car and pulled in for the day.

Saturday was practice day for us running the Time Attack on Sunday. We ran the practice sessions conservatively and focused on chassis setup. Bryan from JRZ was out at the track with us and with just three sessions, he perfected setup with ease. After the third session, we left the car alone and prepared for Sunday’s Time Attack sessions.

Race day came and we were well prepared. In Sunday’s first practice session, Ryan went out to make sure the car was running perfect and to determine his grid position by posting a lap time. Ryan posted a lap very conservative lap, knowing there was much more in the car…about 6 seconds more! Everything was in place, the first Time Attack session was up next.

Ryan was on grid and awaiting the start of the Time Attack session with confidence in the setup. Once on the track and up to speed, Ryan went 100% on his first timed lap. The lap was very smooth and Ryan flew onto the front straight to cross the finish line with an impressively quick lap time on 1:30.781. Ryan took a cool down lap in preparation for the third and final timed lap. The third lap went smooth but Ryan kept it very conservative and posted a time of 1:32. The next closest competitor was 4+ seconds back, with a 1:34.

Ryan sat out the second Time Attack session, confident his lap time was more than fast enough to take the win, and it was. The fastest lap was posted by Sharif A. in his modified R35 GTR, a 1.33.091. A fast time, but still 2.3 seconds behind Ryan’s very impressive time of 1:30.7. With that, Ryan took the victory in Modified AWD Class, and secured the Overall Modified Class Championship at Autobahn. Ryan will be competing again with Redline at Nashville on July 26th, look for a similarly impressive performance.

AMS Sponsored Nathan Pitcher – 2nd place Redline Time Attack – Street AWD – Autobahn

My first ever experience with Redline Time Attack. It’s a different animal getting just 3 hot laps in 2 different sessions! Not a lot of time for mistakes! After the first session I was in 3rd (had no idea). Ended up with 2nd place in Street AWD and got my picture taken with a super hotty on the podium.

Street Class AWD Overall:
1st – Tony Weisenhahn – 1:35.708
2nd – Nathan Pitcher 1:40.389
3rd – Dylan Peterson 1:40.796

I’ve got to give huge thanks to Stevo and the whole AMS crew. I came in Saturday in my NASA TTB trim. I was frantically changing out parts between practice sessions and could not have got it done w/o help.
The car ran flawlessly on Sunday; on a day when a LOT of other cars had issues. Even in the high temps and pushing a ton of boost on the stock turbo.
It was also a treat to watch the crew work feverishly all at once on the TAX car. We all know it’s still under development and everyone really kept at it to make constant adjustments. Things that take me an entire weekend they performed between sessions!

Vids:
Here’s 2 laps from the first TA session. Wouldn’t ya know, my camera tape ran out before the 2nd session started….
First vid – my best lap of the first session (no idea why the sound gets off).

2nd vid – first lap of the session – caught some traffic at the end unfortunately:

Time Attack session #1!
I came out pretty hard and was coming towards the last series of corners when I saw I was catching a car really quickly. It looked like it was barely moving. There were no flags from the corner workers and I was trying for my hot lap, so I kept going and hoped I could get around the car before the next corner. Not so lucky. The car went into the corner on the inside and slowly crossed towards the outside. I had to waste the lap. So I braked hard – locked up a little and jerked right to the inside to make it around rather than risking a collision. I ran a 1:44x. Since my tires were hot, I decided to toss away the next lap and even let a car or 2 around. I wound up for the 3rd and final lap of the session and fired a 1:40.873 I had no idea, but I was actually in 3rd at this point.
I knew the practice times the Turn In Concepts WRX was running and new it was out of reach. I was just hoping to make the podium somehow!

Time Attack session #2!
Judging by the fact 2 AWD cars were ahead of me I assumed I was in 3rd. Either way, I knew I needed to just go out and put down the best lap I could and let the times sort themselves out. I fired 3 hot laps, according to my Traqmate, I ran: 1:40.922 – 1:40.396 – 1:40.383 and had no idea where I sat. I suppose if my radio was hooked up I could have been listening…
I squeezed my way into 2nd place. I knew first was out of reach. The Turn In Concepts WRX was a good 3-4 seconds ahead of everyone. I later found out this is the car that won it’s class in this years One Lap of America and finished 4th overall! Not too shabby; and Tony’s a nice guy.

Big thanks to AMS and Girodisc for overnighting me parts on Thursday to get me fixed up and able to attend.
Big thanks to AMS for an awesomely safe tune that I ran hard with confidence and also for a little on-site tech support Saturday! Also thanks to Mueller for some very neutral handling JIC coilovers.

AMS NOS Energy Drink Time Attack EVO X Assembly Video

As I am sure most of you know we have been building an EVO X time attack car. Well just recently we released a short statement about the effort put forth by our crew to get the car together in time for the latest race. For one week straight day and night they worked around the clock to finish the car. The work and dedication put in was nothing short of inspiring. The end result is a car that so far is testing out to be everything we had hoped for.

Most of you remember the video where we tore down that brand new EVO X to start the build on this latest Time Attack car (http://videos.streetfire.net/video/A…O-X_204768.htm) Well in that same fashion we thought we would give you a fast paced look at what went into the last week of the TA-X build.

Here is the video of the AMS/NOS Energy drink Evo X during its final few days being built!
